Position Summary

Responsibilities include working closely with other engineers and designers in the development and oversight of engineering design projects for water and wastewater facilities. This position is responsible for the design of power distribution systems, instrumentation and controls, lighting systems, and development of load and fault current calculations, power flow models, and short circuit analysis. This position also is required to manage and oversee the development of technical plans and specifications, ensure NEC code compliance, routinely coordinate with client and other disciplines in support of project completion, and mentor graduate electrical engineers and design team members.

Critical Work

  • Participate in client meetings to accomplish project objectives.
  • Identify and facilitate business development opportunities with clients.
  • Generate blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Provides expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems.
  • Performs engineering assignments under general supervision.
  • Selects and determines procedures in engineering projects, writes reports and specifications, checks completed reports, plans, estimates and calculations.
  • Design electrical low voltage and medium voltage electrical distribution system for industrial facilities. The design includes preparing design drawings (single line diagrams, plans, wiring, schematics, schedules, etc)
  • Perform electrical system studies and calculations (load, voltage drop, lighting, short circuit coordination, arc flash, etc)
  • Perform electrical system calculations using power analytic software packages.
  • Perform electrical systems design using switchgears, switchboards, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, generators, transformers, distribution panels, and other electrical distribution systems.
  • Provide design for lighting, fire alarm, telephone, security and grounding systems.
  • Review and coordinate instrumentations, control system process P&IDs, mechanical and HVAC systems and design its related electrical systems.
  • Develop electrical equipment specifications.
  • Prepares engineering plans, consults manufacturers, evaluates and selects materials and inspects engineering features of structures in the field.
  • Review equipment shop drawings.
  • Develop electrical equipment specifications.
  • Perform field inspections of electrical systems and attend system startup field activities.
  • Ability to handle design and support of multiple project at the same time.
  • Participate in generating project proposals. This includes generating the scope of work, proposed work schedule, and cost estimates.

Job Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

  • Professional Engineer Certification preferred.


  • 7 to 9 years of experience in the field or in a related area with at least three years of water/wastewater experience.
  • Experience writing proposals, including cost estimating.
  • SCADA programming a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Possess strong oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player and collaborate with internal team members and external clients.
  • Ability to be a creative problem solver and to think out of the box.
  • Ability to apply electrical engineering principles and practices.
  • Possess knowledge of National Electric Code.
  • Possess knowledge of IEEE green book.
  • Understanding of electrical and I&C equipment including fluke meters, motor control starters, standby generators (550 kilowatt) and other equipment as needed.
  • Ability to create and read blueprints.
  • Ability to achieve solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Ability to use a computer and CAD programs, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications including Microsoft Office Software proficiently.
  • Knowledge of current building codes.
  • Ability to achieve solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Understanding of pavement design, piping system design, grading, and construction management.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting deadlines consistently.
  • Ability to interface with clients professionally and appropriately.
  • Ability to successfully function in a fast paced cooperative team environment spanning across multiple offices.
