Water Distribution Systems Project

About this project

The Flint Transmission System was designed to provide a redundant source of water to Genesee County and the City of Flint, Michigan. The project required a 90 MGD pump station and new transmission lines to pump water north from the city of Detroit to Flint.

Sigma was responsible for leading the design of the pump station and providing engineering support for the transmission lines. Sigma prepared the Basis of Design and detailed design including cost estimates and recommendations for construction schedules. Sigma worked directly with townships, MDEQ, MDOT, and other authorities to perform government and regulatory reviews. The project implemented innovative green design by incorporating three detention ponds and a detailed landscaping plan to return as much of the site to its pre-existing condition and reduce inflows to storm sewers as much as possible with the use of native and indigenous evergreens and trees.
